
Crême Brûlée is a tasty rich and creamy French dessert. It is a type of pudding style custard and it is very simple to make. This delicious recipe can be prepared in 15 minutes. Plus you can alter the recipe and use dairy free cream as an alternative if you are allergic to cows milk.
This recipe serves 4 people. Cooking time is 40 minutes.
Ingredients
- 6 large egg yolks
- 70 grams granulated sugar (very fine sugar)
- 480 ml heavy whipping cream
- 1 and 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- A pinch of salt
- 25 grams of sugar for the topping (Optional)
Method
1. Preheat the oven at 325°F / 160°C.
2. Boil a large pot of water.
3. Mix the egg yolks and sugar until they are well blended together.
4. Heat the cream in a small saucepan until it start bubbling but do not allow it to boil.
5. Add the cream to the egg yolks and sugar. Keep whisking as you are adding the warm cream.
6. While still whisking, add the vanilla extract and the salt.
7. Sift the mixture into 4 ramekins.
8. Bake in the oven 30 – 40 mins.
9. Once cooled. Put the ramekins into the fridge for at least 4 hours or over night.
10. To create a crispy caramel layer, sprinkle the sugar on top of the custard and then put in the oven for 5 – 6 minutes in order to caramelize.
You can either serve or put them back in the refrigerator for 1 hour to chill again before serving.
